Other people can often be unkind to us about our
voices - friends and family, partners, teachers, children etc. so we
can go through life believing that we can't sing. Maybe some of us do
have trouble singing along with songs on the radio, but that doesn't
mean we cant sing. Often we're simply attempting to sing in a key that
is too high or too low for us, or maybe we were trying to sound like
the person on the CD, which we can never really do because they have
their unique sound and we have ours! That's exactly what 'Singing for
Joy & Health is all about - discovering our own special sound.
Some people may still find that they cannot sing
songs very easily but never-the-less they can still enjoy discovering
their voice.
This is what 'voicework' means - vocal exercises,
healing sounds and fun tones which are used in different ways to explore
our voice .This can be very dynamic and extremely beneficial for the
mind and body.
Voicework is one of the most healthy activities
that can be done. It opens up the lungs, mouth, throat, stomach and diaphragm
and literally makes our cells jump for joy, and this in turn brings
about enhanced energy and self-confidence.
Everybody, who comes to 'Singing for Joy &
Health' sessions leaves twice as happy and healthy than when they arrived.
I always advise students never to let illness,
colds and flu etc. be a reason to cancel a session, because I can guarantee
that if they do 'go for it' and attend, they'll definitely feel so much
better by the end of the lesson.
Singing for Joy and Health are individual sessions
which include the following elements:
HOW TO:
Breathe correctly for singing Project the voice
Perform songs effectively (and impressively!)
Gain confidence, have fun and enjoy yourself
Feel great, brimming over with joy and health!
When a person learns to sing, they find a new way of expressing their
true Self. Sometimes it can feel quite exposing, as they are letting
the world truly hear them - who they are.
Your sound is extremely personal to you. That is
why I call my singing lessons 'holistic' because I work in a very sensitive
way with pupils who are new to singing, creating a safe space for them
to 'try out' their voice, unembarrassed. If emotional issues arise,
then I am very much open to taking time out of the lesson to listen
and talk things through. As well as being
an exciting activity to undertake, 'Singing for Joy & Health' can
also be a fascinating journey of self-discovery.
Singing for Joy & Health, is a series of 6
sessions, on a one-to-one basis, all lasting approximately 1 hour. The
cost is £25 per. lesson or £145 for the 6.
I also present workshops.
These are normally one full day from 10am till 4pm with a break for
lunch at mid-day.
My 'Sounds for Health'
are also included in this programme.
